     Tour Description Daily Program

  • Daily program

    Day 1: Arrival in Oban
Make your way to Oban via train or bus from Edinburgh or Glasgow. Check-in on the Flying Dutchman starts at 5 pm, but if you arrive early, you’re welcome to drop off your bags and start exploring. If you’d rather not worry about logistics, there’s a transfer available from Edinburgh in the late afternoon.

Once settled on the authentic tall ship, you’ll gather for a relaxed dinner on board where you’ll meet your guides and crew and get a taste of the week ahead. (Included: Dinner)

    Day 2: Oban - Toberonochy - Crinan (22 mi. / 36 km)
After breakfast on board, you’ll hop on your e-bike and pedal south through the rolling hills and lochside views of the Highlands. The route leads to a quiet peninsula where you’ll catch a ferry to Luing—an island famous for its shimmering slate. Much of Edinburgh’s historic architecture was built using stone from here!

At the tiny harbor village of Toberonochy, you'll rejoin your ship for the sail to Crinan, where you'll spend the evening. (Included: Breakfast, Dinner)

    Day 3: Crinan - Island of Jura (23 mi. / 37 km)
Today’s ride takes you into the heart of ancient Scotland. You’ll cycle to Kilmartin Glen, a landscape dotted with mysterious standing stones, prehistoric burial cairns, and stories of a past older than Stonehenge. After a break at the local museum café, it’s back to Crinan to board the ship.

From there, cruise past the famous Kintyre Peninsula—immortalized in Paul McCartney’s 'Mull of Kintyre'—and sail on to the wild and remote Isle of Jura. (Included: Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 4: Isle of Jura - Isle of Mull (17 mi. / 27 km)
Start your day with a tour of Jura’s famous whisky distillery and learn the craft behind this island’s celebrated spirit. Then it’s back on the e-bikes for a peaceful ride past the Paps of Jura, where the wild deer and sea birds will keep you company.

After a quiet pedal through this remote island landscape, you’ll hop aboard for a scenic sail to the Isle of Mull. On the way, you’ll pass through the dramatic waters of Corryvreckan, home to one of the largest natural whirlpools in the world—don’t worry, your experienced crew has it all under control! (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5: Isle of Mull: Loch Spelve - Salen (32 mi. / 52 km)
Get ready for a day of stunning Scottish scenery. You’ll ride along winding coastal roads and through lush green hills where the only traffic you’ll encounter might be the occasional herd of sheep or iconic Highland cattle.

Your route hugs the coastline of Loch Na Keal, offering stunning sea views before rolling into Salen. From there, it’s a short sail to Tobermory Bay—a postcard-perfect harbor town known for its brightly painted buildings and cozy pubs. (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 6: Isle of Mull: Salen - Tobermory (31 mi. / 50 km)
Today’s ride explores the north of Mull, with some climbs that reward you with gorgeous views and a well-earned break at a local tearoom. You’ll reach the white sands and turquoise waters of Calgary Bay—one of Scotland’s prettiest beaches.

If the weather’s kind and you’re feeling brave, you could enjoy a quick dip in the sea! Afterwards, cycle back through rolling terrain to Tobermory, where you can toast the day’s adventures in a local pub. (Included: Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 7: Isle of Mull: Tobermory - Glengorm Castle - Oban (12 mi. / 19 km)
On your final cycling day, you’ll ride from Tobermory to the impressive Glengorm Castle, perched on the northern edge of the island. Take your time soaking in the views and enjoy a warm drink in the castle’s cozy café before heading back to the ship.

As the Flying Dutchman sails back to Oban, you’ll have one last chance to take in the coastline from the water. In town, there’s time for a stroll and perhaps a visit to McCaig’s Tower—Oban’s own take on the Roman Colosseum—before a final dinner together. (Included: Breakfast, Dinner)

    Day 8: Departure from Oban
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to your crew, your ship, and this magical part of Scotland. (Included: Breakfast)

    Surface and terrain

This guided bike and boat tour requires basic fitness levels and safe cycling abilities. Good balance is required for embarking/disembarking the ship (by dinghy). Tide changes may make it necessary to use ladders for embarkation/disembarkation.

Daily distances cover 12-32 miles (20-55 km) on quiet country roads (asphalted) and rural paths, with some longer, steeper ascents. Some strong headwinds may be encountered. The itinerary factors in time for everyone to complete each tour. Each day, the guides will provide an overview of the route's difficulty level. The itinerary each day also depends on the captain's discretion and the weather.
